Best Toothbrush for Bleeding Gums

Struggling to select the best toothbrush for bleeding gums?

There are a huge plethora of toothbrushes out there and it can be a minefield trying to navigate the market.

And some toothbrushes for bleeding gums can be quite expensive.

So, it’s important you’re buying the right toothbrush for both your bleeding gums (also known as gingivitis) and your pocket. Luckily for you, I deal with bleeding gums on a day to day basis and I’ll save you some time, effort and money.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the three best toothbrushes for bleeding gums. Two electric and one manual. Let’s keep it simple.

The best toothbrush for bleeding gums - the Oral B Pro 2

Oral B Pro 2 2500  review- best electric toothbrush for bleeding gums

MANUFACTURERS CLAIM TO FAME

The Oral B Pro 2 2500 is not the fanciest nor the priciest toothbrush for bleeding gums, but easily my favourite.

It has 3D technology, meaning the round head pulsates, pulsates and rotates simultaneously as it cleans. And more movement means more plaque removal. And less plaque means less bleeding gums.

The toothbrush 2 settings – A daily clean.

But the one you’ll thank – a sensitive clean.

HOW THE ORAL B PRO 2 2500 TOOTHBRUSH WORKS

Oral B is the number one manufacturer of toothbrushes in the country.

Always a solid choice and this one particular is at a fantastic price point for what it brings to the table.

It’s stylish, waterproof, easy to use and it comes with a handy travel case. The battery life is an impressive 2 weeks.

The toothbrush has a two-minute timer, segmented by a change of vibration into 30-second parts, so you know you’re spending enough time in each area of your mouth.

But the important part- what makes this the best toothbrush for bleeding gums?

It has a built-in pressure sensor.

If you push too hard when you brush, a red light will appear on the neck of the brush to indicate you could be damaging your gums and causing gum recession.  It’ll then turn its power down to protect you from doing damage.

It’s like a reflex when you touch a hot tray from the oven and pull your hand away. Your brush is giving the same protective response so you don’t have to think about it.

ISSUES WITH THE ORAL B PRO 2 TOOTHBRUSH FOR BLEEDING GUMS

Honestly, I can’t think of many.

Forget the gimmicks, this toothbrush does the job perfectly well for bleeding gums.

MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION

Yes, there are plenty of more expensive toothbrushes out, packed with plenty more features and at higher price points.

But for just £35, if you’re looking for the best toothbrush for bleeding gums, then look no further than this.

The Pro 2 toothbrush comes as standard with Cross Action heads. Bleeding gums can also be very tender, so for complete protection and gentler brush, I’d recommend buying Oral B Sensi Ultra-Thin brush heads. These are still tough on the plaque, but gentle on your bleeding gums.

The golden combination of the Oral B Pro 2 pressure sensor and the Sensi Ultra-Thin bristles means real protection with your toothbrush for bleeding gums.

Curaprox CS 5460  review- best manual toothbrush for bleeding gums

Curaprox CS 5460

MANUFACTURERS CLAIM TO FAME

Made in Switzerland, you know you’re getting quality when you pick up a Curaprox toothbrush.

These brushes aren’t just soft, they’re ultra-soft.

And the secret’s out. Brushing your sore, bleeding gums is now pure joy when you pick these up. Light, bright and fun, the Curaprox toothbrushes come in plenty of cool colours.

So you’ll never worry about confusing it with your partner’s brush. Sorry, that’s disgusting!

HOW CURAPROX TOOTHBRUSHES WORK

It’s easy to understand how ultra-soft bristles make the toothbrush for bleeding gums, but will they do a proper job of cleaning your teeth?

Well, the magic is in the bristles.

Sorry, Curaprox. Not bristles.

The magic is in the filaments.

They give an incredible clean for your bleeding gums in two ways.

Firstly, the toothbrush filaments are unbelievably fine, each one only 0.1mm and made of Curen®, not the traditional nylon on normal toothbrushes. This makes them soft, like touching under a babies chin. Your sore gums will thank you for this.

Secondly, there are so many of them! No prizes for guessing, 5460 filaments altogether. A standard manual brush only has around 2500, so that’s quite a difference. This means plaque has no chance, despite the brush being ultra-soft.

This combination makes the manual Curparox the best toothbrush for receding gums, by far.

And they’re an absolute bargain off Amazon.

ISSUES WITH CURAPROX TOOTHBRUSHES

The main issue with the Curaprox brush, like any other manual toothbrush is it’s still technique dependant. If you’re using it incorrectly or missing areas, then the toothbrush won’t cure gum disease.

If you want a proper clean, you must concentrate your brush at your gumline, and find a systematic routine so you don’t miss an area. The toothbrush must be angled 45° into your gum line to clean this area, the most important if you have bleeding gums.

Also, because the brush is ultra-soft, it can wear faster than normal manual toothbrushes.  If you normally change your toothbrush over 3-4 months, you’ll probably have to change this every 2-3 months.

MY PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

This is the best manual toothbrush for bleeding gums on the market… if you’re actually cleaning your teeth properly.

If you’re unsure, or you regularly get your wrist slapped by your hygienist, then electric toothbrushes may be better for your gum disease.

And importantly when choosing the best toothbrush for bleeding gums…

Remember, the biggest and most likely cause of your bleeding gums is plaque. Plaque build ups along the junction between your tooth and your gum, causing the gum irritation.

This irritation then makes your gums sore, red, swollen and bleed, and it needs to be removed with a toothbrush.

This sounds counterproductive, but if at first you brush your gums and they bleed then you need to brush that area even more.

Do not be put off by the bleeding!

The more you brush the area, the less they’ll bleed. After around 2 weeks your gums will turn pink and stop bleeding.

And remember, gum disease can lead to loss of the bone which holds in your teeth, so always seek advice from your dentist.

Even the best toothbrush for bleeding gums only works in combination with professional treatment from your dentist.
