Let’s keep it simple. Dental implants are “fake teeth”. It’s not quite what nature gave you, but it’s as good as (possibly better than a broken or loose tooth you have right now) and it’s lightyears ahead of the competition when it comes to replacing one.
They look and feel like real teeth, are fixed like real teeth, and are easily the most long-lasting in a range of tooth replacement treatments.
Dental implants come in two parts. The first is a titanium replacement for a tooth root that sits under your gum. On top, a hand-made crown seamlessly connects, made to blend in so even a dentist can’t tell the difference. Smile Stories are here to show you how our dental implants in Dorset can transform that smile and leave you grinning from ear to ear. We don’t say this lightly: Dental implants will change your life. Come and meet the team!

Matching a front tooth perfectly to its neighbour takes some skill. The colour, the shape, the length, the texture, the shine, the gum line and the spacing between have to be spot on.
At Smile Stories, our aesthetic and implant dentists pride themselves on this level of attention to detail. We’ll ensure the results equip you functionally and WOW you aesthetically using scanning equipment and HD photography.

Dentures are not fixed in your mouth. They sit on your gums with the hope that suction will keep them down and can rock, drop, move and slide quite easily when you chew.
If you can relate to these denture woes, implant-retained dentures are your solution. Your denture will be clipped onto them, meaning they won’t annoyingly move around — no more denture dance moves. Implant-retained dentures can be for some or all of your teeth and are a sure-fire way to chew a good steak again or chomp on a veggie burger.
Imagine a bridge over a river, concrete and steel that you can drive over. It spans the river, but it is only connected to the land at either end.
An implant bridge in your mouth works exactly the same way. So, if you’re missing several teeth in a row, we can place an implant at both ends of the gap and a bridge between them. Whatever the gap, we can bridge it!
Exactly what it says on the tin. Four or six implants. A whole arch of teeth is replaced to allow you to eat, talk and smile with confidence.
Tooth implants can have a life-changing impact. Check out our smile stories if you want to see first-hand how Smile Stories has helped other patients get the smile they have always dreamed of.

Dental implants are essentially “fake teeth”, but not in the same way dentures are. While dentures are loose-fitting and bounce around on chewing, dental implants are “implanted” painlessly under your gum line, so they are a fixed and long term solution. They consist of a titanium replacement for a tooth root and a hand-made crown on top, replicating a real tooth. Find out exactly what dental implants are here.
Our Implant Dentists are trained in an array of systems, including world-leading Swiss-manufactured Straumann implants.
It might sound cheesy, but we don’t ever believe in cutting corners with cheaper manufactured brands, because as the saying goes, “it’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money, but if you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything.” At Smile Stories, we do it once and do it properly with every solution we recommend.
Age isn’t a problem, but the amount and quality of bone will play a factor. Other things that may increase the likelihood of implants not succeeding are excessive smoking and advanced gum disease, as you could be at risk of the gum foundations around the tooth implant(s) from breaking down.
Auto-immune disease and other severe illnesses can also affect the healing rate and how the implant knits with the bone around it. Suitability is determined on a case-by-case basis, and our implant dentists will be able to guide you.

If you’ve lost a single tooth or have no teeth in your mouth, you’re a perfect candidate. Loose dentures, spaces and wobbly teeth may indicate you could also benefit from tooth implants.

Dental implants last for decades but can last longer when looked after properly. The crown, bridge or denture attached to the implant (fastened under the gumline) can wear, chip or need replacing, as you would expect with any other dentistry or anything custom-made. Sadly, nothing lasts forever in life, but we put our heart and soul into giving you Lifetime Smile Confidence.

Nope, it’s not 1995! When you visit us for your dental implant procedure, we will give you a local anaesthetic to gently numb the area (we even use a numbing jelly beforehand), so you won’t feel any discomfort during the procedure. Once the anaesthetic wears off, you can expect some mild discomfort, which may last a few days or a week. You can manage this with painkillers like you would take for a headache. Most of our clients tell us that removing the tooth with their previous dentist was much worse.

The NHS will only offer dental implant treatment in special circumstances, such as patients who can’t wear dentures or whose face and teeth have been damaged in an accident. Otherwise, dental implants are an independently-funded treatment for people looking for a more long-lasting and satisfying solution to losing their tooth/ teeth. Find out more here.

Yes, you can still have dental implants if you have gum disease, but you should treat the gum disease first. Healthy gum foundations around implants matter just as much as teeth! This means you can avoid looseness or the eventual loss of the implant.

Yes, in most cases, you can still have dental implants if you have receding gums. However, our dentists will be able to give you more information based on your unique situation. Everyone’s gums are different, so placing implant(s) in the ideal position to make things look natural is important. Find out more here.
The dental implants themselves shouldn’t cause you any headaches. Headaches would only really occur if there has been nerve damage or infection following the surgery. Find out more here.
Yes, smokers can get dental implants. However, for the best results and maximum chance of a result that lasts a lifetime, we can help guide you to reduce or quit altogether. This matters around the time when the implant is placed, especially. It allows the mouth to heal better, faster and with more minor discomfort. Find out more here.
