The first two days after your dental implant procedure are critical for setting the tone for your recovery and can make or break your recovery time. We’ve got some tips for making sure the first 48 hours after the dental implants procedure goes smoothly:
With over 2,000+ implants placed, a staggering 98% success rate, and 50+ years combined experience as dentists, it’s safe to say our implant team know their stuff.
Our team are renowned for their expertise but more so for their gentle, calm and reassuring manner. They’ll help you eat and smile again without the worry of facing a scary surgeon.
Trained at the world-renowned Implant Dentistry Programme at New York University, Central Hospital of Valencia-Venezuela, and the Colin Campbell Academy, our dentists are associated with the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI), the Academy of Osseointegration (AO), the Spanish Society of Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA) and the Alumni of New York University Department of Implant Dentistry.
Keeping your mouth clean is the most vital way to prevent infection and encourage your implant to heal correctly. However, you’ll need to adapt your routine slightly:
Brushing
We recommend that you use a soft-bristled toothbrush and avoid brushing directly over the implant site for the first week to avoid irritation. You should gently clean the surrounding teeth and gums as normal.
Rinsing
We suggest that you avoid rinsing your mouth for the first 24 hours to protect the blood clot that will form as part of the healing process. After that, use a rinse solution provided by your dentist 2 – 3 times a day to reduce bacteria and soothe the area.
Flossing
You can resume flossing after a few days, but avoid the implant site until your dentist gives the green light.
If you notice anything unusual, remember that Smile Stories is just a phone call away.
Once your implant has fully healed, maintaining it is simple. Treat it like a natural tooth by brushing twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting your dentist for check-ups.
We go above and beyond to make sure your aftercare is as thorough and personalised as possible. After your treatment with us, we’ll:
Dental implants can take anywhere from 3 – 6 months to heal, but that depends on factors like your health and where abouts in your mouth the implant is located. During this time, osseointegration (the process of the implant fusing with your jawbone) occurs.
You can brush your teeth, but avoid the implant site for the first week. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle motions.
