Whether you bit down on something too hard, had a bump to the face, or woken up with a sudden sharp edge in your mouth, fractured teeth happen more often than you’d think.
Here at Smile Stories, we’re experts at dealing with chips, cracks, breaks and everything in between. We’ll figure out what’s going on, fix it up properly, and get your smile back to looking and feeling brilliant again.
A fractured tooth is any tooth that’s cracked, chipped, or broken in some way. It might be a tiny chip that just feels rough, or a full-blown break that’s causing pain, sensitivity, or swelling. Some cracks are obvious, but others are hidden under the surface and need a proper look to identify them.
The important thing to know is that even small fractures can get worse if left untreated, so the sooner we check it out, the better your chances of saving the tooth without needing any big procedures.

There are so many types of ways a tooth can become fractured; the most common causes of a cracked or broken tooth include:
Not all breaks are equal, so we’ll take a close look (using 3D dental scans if needed) to work out what kind of fracture we’re dealing with and how best to fix it.
Minor chips
This is when the tooth’s structure is mostly fine, just a little piece has come off. This can usually be sorted with a simple polish or some bonding to smooth things out.
Cracked teeth
A crack might run vertically or diagonally and may not even be visible. If the crack goes deep, we might need a crown or even root canal treatment, but we’ll walk you through your options.
Fractured cusps
These are breaks around a filling or edge of a back tooth. They’re often painless but can cause food traps or sharp edges. Luckily though, they’re often easily fixed with a filling or crown.
Split teeth
If a crack runs right through the tooth and splits it in two, that’s a bit more serious. We’ll do everything we can to save part (or all) of the tooth.
Vertical root fractures
These start deep in the root and move upwards. They’re sneaky and don’t always show symptoms right away, but that’s where our tech and experience really come in.
